Awards & ProfilesMargaret Matthew - ChairpersonI was born and raised in St Kitts in the West Indies in a small village call Lodge Village. I came to England in 1957.I have been in the St. Kitts Nevis Association from the beginning. Since being in the association I have taken on most committee roles,my present role is Chairperson, I feel that I have been blessed. I have met some wonderful people on my travels. I love to dance and entertain.I thank God for my life and hope to live a long and active one. Colin Spalding - Carnival ArtistCarnival artist, Colin Spalding, creates mas!With over twenty years experience in the carnival craft industry, Colin Spalding is a dynamic designer and craftsman and is celebrated for his ingenious technique in lightweight frame and costume building.In addition to his design and frame building skills, Colin’s expertise extends to design consultancy and conducting workshops for all ages and abilities.He is based in Luton and leads popular local ‘mas’ band Rampage- the UK’s number one touring band that averages more than a dozen carnival and cultural events annually. Moreover, Colin, works extensively across the country and has left his mark on carnival creations found in Notting Hill, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Leicester, Northampton, Coventry, the Isle of Wight and even France, Italy and Israel. His recent return from carnival 2008 in Carnival Mecca, Trinidad, sees Colin celebrating successes after having collaborated on the design and production of several winning creations for both adult and junior carnival costumes as well as the costume for the International Soca Monarch. Luton International Carnival 2009 Parade Winners St Kitts Nevis Friends and Associates were announced the overall winner and best adult group of the Luton International Carnival parade 2009 at a special presentation evening, hosted and organised by the Luton Cultural Services Trust, last Friday, 6 June held at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts (UKCCA), St Mary’s Road, Luton. Every year parade participants are judged on the quality of their costumes and performance. The judges who were faced with making some tough decisions to select the best groups included Greta Mendez and Eric Mills both representing Notting hill Carnival, and Pax Nindi, national carnival artist. The awards were presented by Tony Isles, Chair of UKCCA assisted by Hafiza Mohamed, Arts Development Officer, Luton Cultural Services Trust.
